The Tiare Tahiti hotel has 38 bedrooms spread out over five storeys. Hot Spots in Tahiti
This jewelry shop in Moorea was founded by Canadian navigator Peter Ringland in 1987. Pai Moana Perles own a pearl farm on the atoll of Manihi, in the Tuamotu Archipelago, 600 km Northwest of Tahiti. All pearls sold in the shop are harvested on the farm, which guarantees great quality and affordable prices.
The shop is located in the district of Papetoai, not far from the Intercontinental hotel, on the northwestern shore of Moorea.
The Tahitian Black Pearl
Tahiti and the tuamotu islands are the only places in the world producing the world famous tahitian black pearls. Even though they are called black pearls, colors range from white to black, with infinite possbilities of yellow (champagne), purple (aubergine), green, blue, etc.
In Polynesia, the pearl oyster specie used to produce black pearls is the Pinctada margaritifera or the black-lip pearl oyster because of the pigmentation of its mantle. Most of the pearls are produced in the Tuamotu archipelago, whose lagoons are ideal sites for the growth and the reproduction of pearl oysters.
